I Spy… Eames Chairs

I have been noticing tha the Charles and Ray Eames Eiffel chairs seem to be everywhere lately! Being the design nerd that I am, I really love that these chairs are making a strong come back in today’s design trends.

And did I mention that they come in all sorts of fun colors?

Love this pop of orange.

I LOVE this set up with the black chairs and black accents. Very sleek.

They are made as rocking chairs too! So cute.

Isn’t this darling?

So are you a fan yet? They are a little modern and edgy for my taste, but I think in the right space they can be a real eye catcher!

Weekend Living Room Updates

My living room has been getting a lot of love lately! Maybe it is because it is the first room you see when you come into our home, or perhaps because we spend the most time in this room… but honestly, I think the reason our living room has been getting the most updates lately is simply because I have had the most ideas for it!

Anyway, here are a few of the updates that have been going on around the Barksdale house lately:

We got 2 new mint colored garden stools for our entry from One Kings Lane for a steal!

And our coffee table got a serious make-over. (All that used to be on the coffee table were coasters and then scattered remote controls and magazines… not cute)

First, I am really excited about the terrarium! My sweet Mother-in-law gave me that giant jar last time we were home and i just couldn’t resist making a nice terrarium for our living room.

It was really simple to make once I had all of the “ingredients”. I got the plants and white rocks from West Elm, the dirt from Home Depot and the brown rocks came from my neighbor’s driveway. ha!

I am also really excited about this new tray I got from West Elm. We just needed a way to organize those scattered things on the table since (remotes, coasters, magazines, etc.) since our coffee table is not very big. The best part is, if we want more space on the table, for playing cards or for a snack, we can just move the tray and viola… the table is clear!

I also gave our coasters a little make-over by painting the edges gold to make them look more like a set. Our coasters are not really coasters… they are samples of a resin material that I used to use when I was working in commercial interior design. (I will post more about this later)

Last but not least…. our lamp got a new shade! This is a hand me down lamp and I really like the bade, but the shade was making it look a little dated. I scored this shade from Anthropologie on sale this weekend and I think it works pretty well!

God Bless America

Happy Independence Day everyone! I hope you all have a blessed day full of sunshine, family, friends and some form of food cooked on a grill.

The Perfect Pouf

Last week I highlighted garden stools as accents for the home, but another really fun accent piece that is popular right now are Pouf ottomans.

These little ottomans come in all sorts of colors, shapes, sizes and they are perfect for any room.

I love how they just lined these up in front of the fireplace

They make perfect ottomans, but they can also be used as a casual seat or something to lean on while sitting on the ground.

And they come in tons of colors! These are great for nurseries and kid’s rooms.

How darling is that?

I really like this idea of using two of them at the foot of a bed. Wouldn’t that be perfect for a teenager’s room?

These leather Poufs are pretty easy to find if you just do a little searching on the internet. A good source for them is also Serena & Lily

Knit Poufs are fun too and a little less formal

A good source for knit Poufs is CB2

I am also a fan of this natural weave pouf from Urban Outfitters

I Spy… Garden Stools

One thing I am seeing everywhere lately are Chinese garden stools and I must say that I LOVE this design trend! These garden stools are small (about 13″w x 18″h) and can fit in so many places, which makes them versatile and convenient as well as fun decoration for your home!

Oh, and they come in all sorts of fun colors! These are from Wisteria and are only $129!

I like this idea of using two of them together as a small coffee table.

Or they can be used as side tables too.

I really love how chic this silver one looks…

I really love how these look side by side under this entry table!

Or how there are 3 in a row under this console table. Love it!

Since these are, after all, garden stools they work GREAT outside!

Or in a bathroom! Don’t they make the perfect side tables for a stand alone tub?

I  just love this little stools! They are so versatile and fun, I think I may just have to get some for my home…. I am thinking I will put 2 of them under our entry table… for now anyway.

Stars and Stripes

I can’t believe that the 4th of July is coming up so soon! It is one of my favorite holidays, not only because it is fun to be at the beach or grill out, but also because it is a time for patriotism and to take pride in our country. Since the 4th is right around the corner, I thought it might be fun to give you all some ideas on how to decorate using our American Flag in your home.

The best (and easiest way) is to find an open wall in your home and simply hang a flag

I love the striped red bedding in this room too.

Or you could frame a flag to hang on the wall. This would be a good idea if you have an antique flag that you want to keep safe.

Or if you have a flag large enough you can use it as a curtain and hang it on a rod.

Or paint a board to look like a flag. I think this idea is really awesome and rustic. This would be perfect to hang outdoors since wood will be more durable in weather than fabric.

For a more subtle look think about decorating with American Flag pillows

Or maybe make a wreath for your door.
